Cycle 2011
Are you looking for a challenge and want to help make a difference at the same time?
We are currently looking for volunteers and participants for the first HCPT cycle to Lourdes which will take place during Holy Week 2011. Not only will it be a great physical challenge, but you will be raising valuable funds for the Trust, and making memories and friendships on the way!
What is HCPT Cycle 2011?
A fundraising event in aid of HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust. The Cycle will take place over seven days starting on Saturday 16th April and finishing on Good Friday 22nd April.
All fundraising monies raised from this event will ensure that we are able to continue the work which has been ongoing for more than 50 years.
HCPT Cycle 2011 - Costs
All participants and the backup team involved will need to pay a fare of £500. The fare covers transfers to Dinard, food and accommodation (minimum of two-three star on a sharing basis). If any cyclists who take part stay on to travel with a group in Lourdes the following week, they can make up the balance of a 7-day Easter fare and this will therefore cover both weeks.
Every participant including the backup team must commit to raising a minimum of £2,000 sponsorship for HCPT central funds and pay a fare of £500 in order to enter the event.
The Cycle itself
The cycle starts in Dinard, North West France, and finishes in Lourdes. The total distance is 530 miles. The distances each day vary, but expect to cycle between 50 and 115 miles on seven consecutive days.
You will be supported throughout the week. As well as organising transfers to Dinard, dinner, bed and breakfast each night, transport of the baggage, food stops on the road and medical attention for tender areas, we will also fly cyclists home to the UK.
You will need your own bike and cycle clothing, including cycle shorts, cycling jersey and cycling jacket. We strongly recommend a Racing or Sports type of bike. The lighter the bike, the easier it is to push!
Preparation for the cycle
Training is key to the cycle. The cycle will present a challenge, but anyone who has trained sufficiently will be able to complete the route. There will be three practice cycles that all cyclists and backup team will be expected to attend at their own expense. A diary of these dates can be found on the information leaflet at the bottom of this page.
Support and advice will be given on what type of equipment you need and also ways you can reach your fundraising target.
