HCPT Group 55
Serving Bridgend, Maesteg, Aberkenfig, Porthcawl, Pyle, Llantwit Major, Cowbridge and surrounding areas
Region: Wales
Easter Group
The pioneer family group of the Welsh region, Group 55 was founded in 1971. The group was originally established to serve the Cardiff area, but as the Welsh region strengthened, Group 55 relocated between Pontypridd and Bridgend. A wide-reaching county area, and a population size of almost 50,000 has seen the group more firmly established in Bridgend, while also maintaining links to Pontypridd.
Since 1971, Group 55 has been a family group on HCPT's pilgrimage for many years and has seen many remarkable children thoroughly enjoy their week in France. Some may have additional or complex needs, others an adverse background or they may also join to allow themselves and their carers a chance for respite. For some, this is often their only occasion to have a holiday!
While in Lourdes, the beneficiaries are treated as invited guests during their week's stay at one of the many hotels. Like other groups within HCPT, Group 55 consists of a wide range of volunteer helpers. Some may be on their first pilgrimage to Lourdes, some may not have a dedicated faith, some may even have previously travelled as a beneficiary.
Each of our helpers brings their own experience/background, personality, and skills to offer their own role in our family group. Our helpers devote their time and service fundraising throughout the year, aiming to travel every Easter week. This, along with regular meetings and safeguarding training ensures we fully understand the children in our care. This commitment allows our helpers and beneficiaries to leave with memories of a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
